How important is a product’s name to you?

I don’t remember names very well any more, so they don’t encourage or discourage me from buying… so long as they aren’t patently offensive (like a racial slur). I do think brands should take some care in the names they use, though, and if they’re doing a theme that could relate back to a... — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

ColourPop Proceed with Caution Palette Makeup Look Ideas (x10)

Colour Pop Proceed with Caution 9-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($12.00 for 0.36 oz.) includes an array of neutrals with a pop of yellow. I think you can get several distinct looks out of it, but the secret to getting more out of this palette is layering the shimmers and mattes together to create more variation–like Caution with Dead End or Drill with Maintenance. About This Series Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate ...

What’s a better value to you: palettes or singles? Why?

Don’t get me wrong, I love singles, and I think if I was just a consumer, I’d get equal value out of palettes and singles because I enjoy mixing and matching a lot… but when I have that rare moment where I’m picking and choosing what to wear from ALL THE THINGS (not just what needs to be... — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

What beauty product do you use that a lot of others seem to skip?

Colored, pencil eyeliner and/or colored eyeshadow underneath my lower lash line! I definitely see people doing this, but for me, it’s practically a must-do every time I apply makeup! — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

When do you prefer a cream or liquid product over a powder one?

If I want more of a stained effect, cream/liquid blushes definitely get there more easily (and tend to look better). For more glittery eyeshadows, liquids and creams tend to have better binding, adhesion, and hold compared to powder eyeshadows–though the cream-powder hybrids are quite good these... — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

If you could find out what was in any celebrity’s makeup bag, who would you pick?

I’d love to see what products Kim Kardashian’s makeup/skincare routine was like from start to finish, particularly since she has her own brand now, so it’d be interesting to see what brands were mixed in with her own products. — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

Rant & Rave: Liquid Highlighter

Tell us what you love and hate about... Liquid Highlighter Rave: They tend to have smoother, more luminous finishes that don’t emphasize skin texture. They can also have a shinier, almost wet-look finish, too, that isn’t as typical of powder-based highlighters. Rant: The delivery systems often gives wayyy too much product, and they can sometimes lift up base products or spread too easily. — Christine Join Discussion [...

What is the most essential step in your makeup routine?

In a very minimal look, I feel like it’s base — like a sheerer foundation or tinted moisturizer, but for a more “wear everything except the kitchen sink” kind of look, then I feel like brows make a huge, huge difference in tying everything together. — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

If you could apply makeup to any celebrity, who would it be?

If you could create a makeup collection based off of food, what would it be?

I think I’d have to do something off of dessert… I have a total weakness for dessert. Colors and textures inspired by various desserts, like jelly/mousse eyeshadows, sparkling (sprinkling) eyeshadows, glossy, juicy lips (like glazed fruit!), and so on. (Though I imagine people might want... — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

What’s your date night look?

It’s usually whatever I’m testing that day, LOL! I love putting makeup on, BUT I’m not so in love with removing + reapplying so I don’t usually take the time to do so. If I did, though, then it’s often reaching for a semi-recently reviewed palette (that I enjoyed and want to play with... — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

If you could rock any hairstyle you wanted, what would it be?

I finally dyed/colored my hair, so I think that’s about where I’m at! There’s a not particular cut I’ve ever drooled over and wished I could have, though. I really love long, layered hair! — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

Have you ever turned someone into a beauty enthusiast?

I have to imagine that at least once in the last decade that someone came to Temptalia and then became more enamored with beauty/makeup… but in terms of people I interact with in person, I don’t think so. My sister really likes doing her nails, but I don’t think I’m responsible for that! — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

Rant & Rave: Foundation Brushes

Tell us what you love and hate about... Foundation Brushes Rave: I still reach for a brush over a sponge for applying my foundation! Sometimes, with more matte or quick-drying formulas, a sponge is nice to soften and make a finish a bit more flattering/natural after initial application, but otherwise, I’m a brush gal! Rant: I find the bristles can get too thick with product so they have to be cleaned often (preferably after each application but if lazy, two). To get every last bit of ...

How do you incorporate makeup sponges in your routine?

Sometimes I use beautyblenders, but I loathe cleaning them (just feels like it takes so much water to rinse them clear), and when I do, it’s usually to sheer out heavier coverage foundations or to add moisture to a more matte foundation/concealer. Sometimes, I’ll use them for a cream blush but... — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

What are the top three characteristics you want in a concealer?

I like something with some hydration, especially for anything that’s being used all-over or on my face (vs. underneath my eyes, which could be a little drier to avoid settling into fine lines). I prefer high coverage concealers as foundation is sufficient if I’m just looking for more medium... — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

What are the top three characteristics you want in an eyeshadow palette?

For me, something that’s cohesive (excepting brow bone/transition shades) and offers a good mix of light to dark shades. I’m not overly concerned with all shimmer vs. all matte, but some variety in finish is nice, too. Bonus: interesting or more complex shades! — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

Rant & Rave: Matte Lipstick

Tell us what you love and hate about... Matte Lipstick Rave: I love the richness of most matte lipsticks, and it’s amazing how long some formulas can wear… Rant: but they’re often drying in order to have such long-wear! They can also stain, which can be good or bad depending on the particular day or how it stains. — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]
