Top 5 Teemu Selanne Moments With Ducks

In June 2017, Anaheim Ducks legends Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya were elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. The two formed a scintillating duo of offensive talent with the (Mighty) Ducks in the mid-late 1990s, helping grow interest in Anaheim’s new team. As both are now Hall-of-Famers, their careers are inevitably littered with a plethora of highlights. Kariya was the club’s longtime captain in its early years, while Selanne retired after the 2013-14 season holding the all-time franchise records ...

Corey Perry practices with Ducks for first time in 4 months

ANAHEIM — Corey Perry practiced with his Ducks teammates Tuesday for the first time since he felt something pop in his right knee during the pregame warmup before an exhibition game Sept. 24 against the Arizona Coyotes at Honda Center. He underwent surgery to mend cartilage and a ligament two days later. Perry said Tuesday he had been skating for the past “eight, nine, 10 days” with Larry Barron, the Ducks’ skating and skill development coach. It was hard work, grueling and mind-numbing activity...

NHL Loyalty Programs Reward Fans & Drive Data Collection

I admit I am a loyalty card addict. I have been an Aeroplan member since 1985, maintained an Air Miles card for 23 years and faithfully collect Westjet Dollars through everyday purchases with my Westjet Rewards Mastercard. Professional sports teams, including some NHL teams, are recognizing the value of incorporating fan loyalty clubs and cards into their marketing strategy. According to marketing firm DCR Strategies, “New technology, combined with the immense growth of professional sports aroun...

Jets’ 2018 Draft Pick Update

The amount of attention draft picks get varies wildly. They’re heavily highlighted in the weeks leading up to their draft, staunchly scrutinized as they are selected and much-ballyhooed as they strut their stuff at prospect showcases and development camps. However, by the time October comes and the puck drops on any given regular season, the majority of fans forget all about the players their team selected just a few months prior (unless that pick is NHL-ready like Auston Matthews or Patrik Lain...

Three players sent down to AHL's Moose ahead of break

Two youngsters made big impressions during the Winnipeg Jets' two-game road trip. Brendan Lemieux scored his fourth, fifth and sixth goals of the year and was the sparkplug on an effective fourth line, while young Finnish-born defenceman Sami Niku earned a pair of assists against the Predators. For now, Winnipeg reassigned Niku and veteran pro Cam Schilling to the Manitoba Moose to bolster the AHL club's blue line this week while the big club is idle. Schilling made his presence felt i...

Predators' Johansen Suspended

On Friday, the NHL's Department of Player Safety made a ruling on Nashville's Ryan Johansen, giving him a 2-game suspension for a reckless high-stick on Winnipeg's Mark Scheifele on Thursday night.  The high-sticking call was for an inadvertent chop to the head of the Jets forward in trying to pivot past him, which also earned him a penalty on the ice. What this means is that Johansen will [Author: Clayton Corley]

Scheifele Will Be First Jet to Score 50

No Winnipeg Jet has scored 50 goals since the team moved to Winnipeg in 2011, but Mark Scheifele, the team’s first-ever draft pick, looks more and more like he’ll be the first. After all, he has all the necessary skills to hit the vaunted mark. On the surface, Patrik Laine would seem to be the most-likely candidate. After all, he was the first Jet to score 40 last season. He owns a lethal wrist shot and is still just 20 years old with more room to grow. Also not to be ignored, Laine plays ...

Year in Review: 50 Photos from our 2018 travels Every year we have good intentions to write our ‘Year in Review’ posts before the year is complete. And, every year, we fall short of this goal. This year was no different. We had a wonderful end to the year and have spent the past week catching up and getting our lives back on track. 2018 will go down as the milestone year. We celebrated 10 years of marriage with a vow renewal ceremony on the beach in Mexico. We celebrated Cameron’s 40th birt...

The Edmonton Oilers Defeated The Vancouver Canucks As The Teams Battle For A Wild Card Spot

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, Did anybody figure NHL Game 724 in the middle of January between the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks would actually have playoff, rather than lottery implications for both teams? So here we were Wednesday night as the Oilers and Canucks went at it for wild card spots. Maybe not exactly Tampa Bay against Winnipeg or Calgary in an offensive battle, but still awfully good theatre. “Every game is a sudden death elimination game,” sa...

Advocates Providing “Legal Services”

There’s change on the horizon for Manitoba’s legal community, and not everyone is on board with it. If you’ve ever read my posts here (and I haven’t written in quite a while, so you may not have), you will likely not be surprised to learn that I support the current efforts of Legal Aid Manitoba to seek permission from the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (“IRB”) to use trained advocates rather than lawyers to represent asylum-seekers where appropriate to do so. According to this CBC News ...

A Musical Oasis in an Icefield

In January of 2016, I boarded a plane from my home base in New York City and touched down a few hours later in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Though I was born in Montreal and lived through its blistering winters for almost three decades, five years of temperate NYC weather had dulled my hibernal instincts: I showed up with a slick coat best suited for a reasonable East Coast urban setting, wearing cowboy boots… …It was negative 40 degrees. Fahrenheit or Celsius, you ask? Doesn’t matter, they’re th...

Avalanche at the Midpoint – Some Good & Some Bad

45 games into the Colorado Avalanche’s season, their woes continue and the speculation mounts on why the team is struggling. It’s worth the time to step back from the ledge and analyze what’s really happened at the midway point.  Yes, the team has gone 1-7-2 in their last 10 games. Since Dec. 1, the Avalanche have gone 5-11-3 and fallen to a wild card spot after contending for a first-place spot in the division earlier in the season. There are reasons for concern. But there is also time an...

Bruins’ Trade Deadline Targets

It is hard to believe that trading season is here once again, but as the NHL’s annual All-Star Game creeps a little bit closer that means the deadline is right around the corner. This season there appears to be more of a buyer’s market than anything, which greatly benefits a team like the Boston Bruins. As the Bruins get healthier and the wins continue to pile up, it only strength?ens the team’s case to buy at this deadline. With a number of young players on ‘value deals,’ there might not ...
