Weekend Cooking: 2 Cookbooks for Your Kitchen Library

I've been fortunate enough to be part of the Voracious Ambassadors program for a couple of years now, which means I receive review copies of many of the cookbooks published by the Voracious imprint of Little, Brown. Their cookbooks are always as informative as they are useful and pretty to look at. Today I talk about two cookbooks that came out this fall. First up is Zoe Adjonyoh's Zoe's Ghana Kitchen, which is subtitled "An Introduction to New African Cuisine--from Ghana with Love." I didn't ...

Night Teeth – review

Director: Adam Randall Release date: 2021 Contains spoilers I watched Night Teeth a couple of days before sitting down to write this review and I am still undecided about how I feel with regards the film – perhaps this review writing will resolve that. I mean, beyond the awful title because it really isn’t a great title. But let’s not judge a book by its cover nor a film by its name. The film struggles to decide what it is – action film, it hides much of the action because perhaps it is aimed a...

Five Frugal Things | I went to Goodwill!

I haven’t been to Goodwill in such a long time, but Zoe and her friend wanted to go thrifting, and neither of them can drive yet. So, that meant I went thrifting too! Thus, most of my Five Frugal Things this week will be Goodwill-related. I found some lidless Pyrex containers.Brought to you by: Frugal Focus

Dune Star Jason Momoa Is Honored To Be Working With Denis Villeneuve [Interview]

Jason Momoa is a spirited action hero. Even when he simply walks into a room in "Dune," he does so with as much bravado as when he takes out a room full of enemy soldiers. Playing the great warrior, Duncan Idaho, Momoa brings swashbuckling fun to Denis Villeneuve's massive art film. The adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune" is an uncompromising, tangible vision that the actor is, obviously, thrilled about.Duncan Idaho is a role that's familiar and new for the "Aquaman" and "See" star. Villeneuve'...

Don't assume that a runny nose, headache, or sore throat is just a cold - get a COVID-19 test to avoid spreading the coronavirus, experts say

Luis Mostacero receives a Covid-19 test from testing technician Jamie Kunzer at Doctors Test Centers at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Thursday, May 20, 2021. Comment on tall, fluffy buttermilk pancakes by Zoe

Thank you so much for this delicious pancake recipe! My son absolutely loves them. He adds it’s chocolate chunks just before we pop them in the oven. I love watching them puff up after they flip…so much fun. I also started putting in about 2 tablespoons of mango or other fruit puree and cutting down the buttermilk appropriately… Just to give him a little extra vitamin C for the school day. Oh yes, thank you for including metric measurements as we moved to Dublin last year.

Not A Lesson: Why Dear Evan Hansen And Roadrunner Are Both Deeply Irresponsible Depictions Of Suicide

Spoilers for the films "Dear Evan Hansen" and "Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain."This year two films have crossed into dangerous and irresponsible territory in using suicide and suicidal ideation as story arcs. First, Morgan Neville's documentary "Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain," ostensibly a look at the life and work of celebrity chef and world traveler Anthony Bourdain, used his death by suicide to elicit heartbreaking interviews from grieving friends and family, while also...

Dear Evan Hansen Review: A Misguided Adaptation Of A Messy Musical

The most appropriate word to describe "Dear Evan Hansen," the film adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, is "misguided." On paper, it would seem as though "Dear Evan Hansen" knocks off all the right boxes on the checklist. For an adaptation of a Tony-winning musical, it's got an impressive cast and crew, including the director of the well-liked teen drama "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," A-list performers like Amy Adams and Julianne Moore, and even the award-winning actor who or...

A little girl I knew was on the plane that hit the Pentagon on 9/11. Her death changed the course of my life as America changed forever.

An airplane flies near the Pentagon. Salwan Georges/The Washington Post An 8-year-old girl I knew on 9/11 was in the plane that hit the Pentagon. Her death and the deaths of nearly 3,000 people changed me, America, and the world forever. Two decades later, the US is still locked in a seemingly never-ending war. See more stories on Insider's business page. I was 13 on 9/11, living in a Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, DC. When the first plane hit the World Trade Center at 8:...

Super Hot – review

Director: Taylor King Release date: 2021 Contains spoilers If I told you that I was reviewing a film called Super Hot about vampires in a sorority house then I’d expect your mind to either wander towards I being an 80s or 90s sexploitation flick or shudder as you remembered the Sisterhood. Well rest assured that this is not as bad as the latter but nor does it resemble the former (and in truth it struggles to resemble the comedy it’s supposed to be, alas).
