Losing Grip on Reality

I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder about 5 months ago by my psychiatrist. But with the help of Zoloft and Risperidone along with psychotherapy, my depression has gotten much much better. However, just a few days ago I’ve been feeling a bit different. Im feeling as if I’m just tagging along with myself, if that makes any sense. Im having quite some difficulty describing what Im feeling. For instance, I would get back to reality to find that I’m ‘reading’ a book. But I have no mem...

Why Is Suicide On The Rise In Women — & What Can We Do About It?

This story was originally published on Jul. 19, 2016.Several months ago, a woman I’m very close to checked herself into a hospital because she’d been having thoughts of ending her own life. Not just thoughts, actually — she had a plan. Those of us who know her truly had no idea things had gotten that bad. Sure, we knew things had been tough lately, but she’d weathered worse. She’s dealt with depression and mild bipolar disorder for much of her adult life, and has gone through some very low time...

Zoloft Birth Defect MDL Ends with Pfizer’s Victory

The Zoloft birth defect MDL ends with Pfizer’s victory as U.S. District Judge Cynthia Rufe granted the Big Pharma giant’s December motion for summary judgment yesterday. There were 311 cases in the four-year-long multidistrict litigation, all alleging that Zoloft use during pregnancy caused heart defects in babies. Some cases also alleged additional birth defects, but all are effectively over. The post Zoloft Birth Defect MDL Ends with Pfizer’s Victory appeared first on Legal Reader.

This Is Why Taking Antidepressants Makes Me a Better Mother

It wasn’t until I had visions of smothering my five-month-old daughter that I knew I needed help. I’ve struggled with depression since I was 15 years old, and I’ve tried to effectively treat that depression for 16 years and counting. I’ve tried talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and light therapy. I’ve tried changing my diet, changing my job, sleeping more, and drinking less. I’ve tried prayer, meditation, yoga and running, and I’ve tried more medications than you can imagine: Wellbutr...

I Changed Who I Was as a Person to Eliminate Depression and This Led to Unexpected Changes in My Life

The problem with this recent change in personal identity is that I now have a hard time focusing on and completing my school work both in class and outside of class. When I try to meditate and focus on breathing deep from my stomach, as the college counselor I’ve seen a few times suggested, I feel like crying. In the art class I’m taking (I’m a Technical Communication Major by the way), our teacher has been trying to get us to be calm and to really focus on what we’re drawing, but I just end up ...
